Statin Use in Persons with Diabetes Calculations
The Statin Use in Persons with Diabetes measure identifies the percentage of patients ages 40-75 who were dispensed a medication for diabetes that receive a statin medication. The American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guidelines recommend moderate to high-intensity statin therapy for primary prevention for persons aged 40-75 years (Class I recommendation). The denominator for this measure is made up of patients who have received 2 or more prescription fills for a hypoglycemic agent. The numerator is made up of those patients in the denominator who also receive at least one prescription fill for a statin medication within the measurement period.
Patient Attribution: The pharmacy who filled the most prescription claims within the target therapeutic categories for a specific patient within the calendar range will be assigned responsibility for the patient. All prescription drug claims for target medications, regardless of dispensing pharmacy, will be counted towards the rate.
